At BVIZIBLE Reflectors, we are about saving lives, one pedestrian at a time.

JOIN THE BVIZIBLE MOVEMENT

Poor visibility is a significant contributor to pedestrian traffic accidents. In fact, over two thirds of pedestrian traffic injuries occur in the dark.

The good news is that most traffic injuries are also preventable.

One way to prevent a number of pedestrian traffic injuries is by improving visibility and the driver's sight distance on roads. Improved visibility is the core function of a safety reflector.

Reflectors have proven impacts on pedestrian road safety: in Finland alone, pedestrian injuries decreased by over 70% in two decades since the increased use of safety reflectors.

Now BVIZIBLE Reflectors is determined to integrate safety reflectors into the traffic safety culture in North America.

We invite you all to join this movement.

Our reflectors are made in Finland and designed in the US.

BVIZIBLE Reflectors is honored to be an Associate Member of the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA).

BVIZIBLE Reflectors: What, Why & How?

    What is a Reflector?

    How to Use a Reflector?

    What is a Reflector?

The safety reflector is a Finnish invention. It is a visibility and safety accessory for pedestrians, cyclists and pets, and it was invented by a Finnish farmer Arvi Lehti back in 1955.

More than two thirds of the Finnish population and more than half of the population in Nordic countries regularly wear a reflector. Several European countries have even placed laws to mandate the use of reflectors in order to increase road & walking safety.

To date, over 100 million reflectors have been sold worldwide.

The mechanics behind a safety reflector are simple: it is based on retro reflectivity.  As way of some background, there are three types of reflections, diffuse reflection, mirror reflection and retro reflection. Retro reflectivity is the most efficient type of reflectivity: once the light hits the surface, the tiny prisms inside the reflector break the light three times and reflect the light back to its source.

All that's needed for a reflector to work efficiently is some light and a little movement. The light enables the reflection to occur and the movement ensures that the light is reflected from all angles of the reflector. See more detailed guidance of how to use a reflector under "How to Use a Reflector?"

    Why Use a Reflector?

    How to Use a Reflector?

    What is a Reflector?

A significant contributor to traffic injuries is poor visibility. In fact, almost 80% of pedestrian traffic injuries and deaths occur in the dark.

This is because a regular pedestrian often represents a dark target viewed against a dark surface - which is difficult for the driver to see. Rain and fog contribute to the driver's reduced visibility, and the combined effect of streetlights, advertising lights, and shadows formed by trees can further impair the driver's visibility on the road.

Poor visibility leads to a short detection distance for the driver: a nighttime driver driving with low-beam headlights will detect a pedestrian at only 50 meters (164 feet) while a driver driving with high-beam headlights (and also often faster) typically has a detection distance of around 150 meters (490 feet). Neither detection distance may be enough to avoid a collision.

Wearing a BVIZIBLE Reflector can increase the person's visibility up to 5 times compared to a person not wearing a reflector (see an illustration of the increased detection distance here). When the pedestrian or cyclist wears a reflector, the car headlights will shine on the reflector and the reflector will bounce back the light and help the driver see the pedestrian or the cyclist. This will provide the driver with more reaction time to safely decelerate the vehicle.

Reflectors enhance visibility in both poorly and well-lit areas.

    How to Use a Reflector?

    How to Use a Reflector?

    How to Use a Reflector?

BVIZIBLE reflectors can be attached to a handbag,  jacket, backpack, walker, stroller, wheelchair, dog leash or anything else that you are wearing or using outdoors. You can even use a BVIZIBLE reflector as a keyring.

Just use the ball chain together with the clip, parrot hook or the metal ring, which are included in our BVIZIBLE reflector packages.

The reflector works best when it is hanging and it swings. The movement makes the reflector flash and thereby, makes it visible from both front and back.

Reflectors do not wear out and there is no need for batteries.

BVIZIBLE reflectors are designed to be small, stylish and easily attachable. They are considered to be the best visibility solution for pedestrians and cyclists alike, and they are designed in a way that makes them fit well with the person’s clothes, bag or other accessories.

Responding to the Pedestrian Safety Crisis

Safer Roads for Kids & Youth

    Proven Impacts on Pedestrian Safety

    Proven Impacts on Pedestrian Safety

Pedestrian accidents account for almost half of all traffic fatalities and injuries, and youth and seniors are the most affected age groups. In fact, for persons aged 0-24 years and over 65 years, being struck by a motor vehicle is the second most common cause of injury.

Young children walking to school face a particularly high risk of being involved in a traffic accident. This is because they are small and therefore harder for drivers to see and may not fully understand all the traffic rules. During the dark winter months, the risk of the driver not seeing the child further increases.

Wearing a BVIZIBLE reflector will make it safer for the child to walk to school and back.  You can easily attach the reflector to the child's backpack, jacket, overall or gloves. Wearing multiple reflectors at once will further increase the child's visibility in the dark.

    Proven Impacts on Pedestrian Safety

Since 2010, pedestrian traffic fatalities in the US have surged by a staggering 77%, compared to a 22% rise in other traffic fatalities. By 2022, the fatalities reached 7,500, marking a 40-year high in the US. This alarming trend was labelled a pedestrian safety crisis.

In 2003, Finland reinforced its law mandating the use of a safety reflector in poorly lit areas.

The reinforced legislation has had a material impact on pedestrian safety in Finland: the increase in the use of reflectors has significantly contributed to the decrease in pedestrian injuries (click here for the statistics), and in two decades, pedestrian traffic injuries in Finland have declined by over 70%,  The number of pedestrian traffic injuries involving people aged 0-14 has decreased by even more, by over 80%.

Today, over two thirds of  the Finnish population regularly wear a reflector.

In 2017, Finland acknowledged reflectors as the most crucial traffic innovation of the century.

    Best Reflectors on the Market

    Best Reflectors on the Market

BVIZIBLE reflectors are the original reflectors that were invented in Finland almost 70 years ago. We have the best machines and a well established technique for manufacturing our reflectors - a technique that has been developed for decades now. In our production process, the reflectivity of the reflector is measured every 2 hours, all which is carefully documented.

BVIZIBLE Reflectors are fully compliant with the European regulations CE EN13356/EN17353. According to these regulations, the reflective value of a standard reflector must be no less than 400 C.I.L. (coefficient of luminous intensity).

BVIZIBLE Reflectors have a C.I.L. of at least 800, with an average C.I.L. of 1,600 and with some products even having a C.I.L. up to 3,000.

This means that the reflectivity of an average BVIZIBLE Reflector is four times the European minimum requirement.

The high C.I.L. value ensures that the distance at which the driver of a motor vehicle can see a pedestrian walking along the side of a highway at night will increase, and the driver will be able to notice the person wearing the reflector in time.

This high C.I.L. value makes BVIZIBLE Reflectors the best reflectors on the market.

BVIZIBLE reflectors have all safety reflector identifiers required by these regulations. This includes having a valid EU certificate, CE-mark, name and address of the underlying test house and instructions for the user.
